![]() When you do gain control, events unfold with a time limit and usually there will only be one check point and no means of rewinding, so failure results in you potentially having to re-watch the scene over and over again. First you watch the deaths / murders occurring with no means of interacting. You will, however, have to watch each death unfold a number of times. Figuring out how to undo a death by travelling back in time and manipulating the surrounding objects to stop it can be every bit as satisfying as finding a contradiction in the Ace Attorney series. The problems with the game is probably highlighted by the fact that the strongest sections are also it’s weakest. This is because we are capable of overlooking the large flaws this game has as we get hooked into the story.įor many, though, gameplay will be overly linear (there is only one solution to any situation), repetitive (challenges get more difficult and interesting but are largely more of the same) and you will be forced to wade through some serious amount of dialogue before you actually have any control. Those, like me, who enjoyed the Ace Attorney series will love the unique gameplay, the characters and the wonderful score. Fortunately you can download the 1st two chapters free of charge before deciding to spend money on this. Simply put, some people will love this game, some will hate it. Fortunately, if you find a dead body you can rewind to four minutes before their death and attempt to avert their faith. The amnesic Sissel soon learns that he has inherited the powers of ghost tricks and can interact with the living world but, unfortunately, only has this night to figure out who he was. The game starts with a damsel in distress but uniquely the hero, Sissel, is indisposed as he is already dead. However, the menial puzzle-solving and the lack of evolution in the gameplay can put you off if you are looking for more dynamic gameplay.Released early last year on the DS with little acknowledgement from the buying public, the latest game from Ace Attorney creator Shu Takumi has come to ios systems. The character, animation, and dialogues are also terrific, making the core of the game-crimes and death-lighter. Almost every facet of the game is unique, from the concept to the puzzles. Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective is one of the most original puzzle-adventure games to come along in recent years. While each new chapter sheds some light on the character’s identity, the revelations only lead to bigger, more puzzling questions. Original as the game is, the novelty wears off after some chapters because the majority of the storyline does not evolve in any way. Till the end, the game lacks the Eureka moment that most brain-teasing games thrive in. Moreover, there is only one solution to each problem, all of which involves manipulating the right objects in a certain way at a very specific time. Sure, it is fun to experiment with objects to see which will work and which will not, but if you do a significant amount of trial and error, it can be exhausting. However, as much fun as the characters and their dialogues are, the puzzles are menial at best. Menial puzzle workĪs a mystery game, Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective is filled with puzzles you need to solve. And if that’s not enough of a chore, not all objects can be possessed. You have to continuously possess an object to move along. The only way to move is through conveniently-placed objects you can possess at will. However, you cannot walk like a normal person. And since you are a disembodied soul, you can move between the ghost world and the real world. Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective allows you to view the characters from a two-dimensional side view. The environment is also presented in a striking style to make the details pop off the screen. The game also comes with stunningly smooth and expressive animation, which makes the movements of the characters visually great. Spending time with each of them is a joy, as the chapters are filled with snappy dialogues that are consistently entertaining. ![]() The game comes with 18 chapters, each introducing a character.
